Meeting with Cuban dissidents and former political prisoners

Prague, June 8, 2009

– Cuban dissidents Pedro J. Fuentes-Cid, spokesperson of the Cuban organization of political prisoners Presidio Político Cubano, and Felix I. Rodriguez, former CIA agent and author of the book “Shadow Warrior,” held a discussion on Monday, June 8 with interested parties at a seminar entitled “Patria o Muerte!???” at the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes. Monday’s debate at the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes follows on the dissident group‘s June 5 visit to the Institute. During their visit, Fuentes-Cid, Rodriguez, and José Azel, senior research associate at the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies at the University of Miami, familiarized themselves with the work of the Institute and Security Services Archive, the issue of rendering archival materials accessible to the public, and examined some archival materials concerning Czechoslovak-Cuban cooperation. The agreement on mutual cooperation between the ministries of the Interior of Czechoslovakia and Cuba from the year 1983, signed by the then ministers, aroused particular interest.
