Anti-Communist flyers and prints in totalitarian Czechoslovakia, 1948–1953

Implementation: 2014–2018

Head of project: Petr Mallota

Other members of the project team: Martin Jindra

Description of project: Using archival research, the project documents the existence of “anti-state” flyers and similar illegal prints that were produced in Czechoslovakia as an expression of resistance against totalitarian power in 1948–1953. It analyzes these documents from the perspective of the form and content and compares them with similar materials from the Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia and with anti-Communist materials from other Soviet satellites. It assesses their significance and impact, puts them in historical context and classifies their authors and disseminators (regional aspect, motivation, class origin, religion, etc.). The final outcome of the project will be an edition of the documents (flyers).
