International conference 100 Years Since the Founding of the KSČ. The Legacy of Czechoslovak Communism

The Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes and the Institute for Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences are honoured to invite you to the international conference 100 Years Since the Founding of the KSČ. The Legacy of Czechoslovak Communism, which will take place online on 13 and 19-21 May 2021.

The conference aims for a complex perspective on the phenomenon of Czechoslovak communism; therefore, it unites the traditional historical approach with the interdisciplinary perspective (especially sociology and political science) with a focus on the analysis of the impacts of the communist past on the functioning of liberal democracy after 1989. The programme of the conference, however, does not thematically limit itself to the development of the Communist party only, but also includes the wider social context of its influence. The conference will be divided into six thematic panels that will deal with international, domestic, security, economic and social issues over time from World War I to the present day.

The conference will be held in Czech and English with interpretation and will be broadcast live on YouTube
