Academic Council of the Institute
The Institute Council at its 11th session on July 7, 2008, pursuant to Section 9 paragraph 1e) of Act No. 181/2007 Coll., approved the establishment of an Academic Council as an expert advising organ to the Institute director concerning the Institute’s research activity. On the recommendation of the Institute director, the Council named the following members.

Seventh meeting of the Academic Council of the ÚSTR (13 December 2010)
The Academic Council of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes (ÚSTR) met on 13 December 2010 with all of its members in attendance. The members of the Academic Council were introduced to the new management of the ÚSTR. They were also acquainted with the Institute’s Plan of Activity for 2011 and with its Annual Report for 2009. The Academic Council expressed its full support for the management of the ÚSTR. They also fully supported the Institute’s basic documents and the direction in which it is headed.
Part of the meeting comprised the election of a new chairman for the Academic Council. Lt. Col. Eduard Stehlík (PhD.) from the Military History Institute was the person chosen for this post.
Fourth Session
The Academic Council, as the Institute director‘s expert advising organ for research activity, chose the holiday date of July 7, 2009 for its fourth session. This time, prof. PhDr. Igor Lukeš, Ph.D., who lives in the USA, and PhDr. Slavomír Michálek, CSc., from Slovakia, were able to participate in the session. The Council expressed its satisfaction with the Institute‘s publication activities and concurrently offered suggestions on this topic. At the request of Director Pavel Žáček, members of the Council also committed to submit their suggestions concerning the future evaluation of the Institute‘s activities. The Council intends to re-address this issue at its next session.
Third Session
The Academic Council met on January 12, 2009 for its third session. In its first meeting of the new year, the Council was acquainted with the Institute’s 2009 Plan of Activity as well as other relevant information. The Council expressed its satisfaction with the work results of all Institute departments and offered several recommendations to Director Žáček.
Second Session
The Academic Council met for its second session on October 15, 2008. The main theme was a personal meeting with colleague Professor Mark Kramer, who was visiting the Czech Republic at the time. Members of the Academic Council also examined the Institute’s Digitization Department, research room, archive and the newly forming library.
First Session
The Academic Council's first full session took place on September 15, 2008, when it elected PhDr. Jiří Pernes, Ph.D. as chairman and PhDr. Eduard Stehlík as Vice Chairman. It further approved internal guidelines and reacted to the Institute’s proposed plan of activities for 2009.
Preliminary Session
The Academic Council held a preliminary session on August 18, 2008.
